In 2020, the YWCA began work on the creation of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center (LCREC). The Lorain County Racial Equity Center is a “rebranding” of the YWCA of Elyria to greater represent to the community the work we have historically done in the fulfillment of our mission ‐ the elimination of racism and empowerment of women. The resulting document, Lorain County Racial Equity Agenda, became the foundational piece of the Lorain County Racial Equity Center and the expected subsequent work.

Racism and the inequities it creates are well documented as drivers of health disparities and overall poor health in the Black and Brown communities with an unequal allocation of social resources that shape health status.

Contextual statistics demonstrate an adverse disparate impact on educational attainment between districts in Lorain County with majority Black and Brown students compared to districts with majority White students.

Impediments to fair housing include Public Transportation, Source of Income Discrimination, Availability of Affordable Housing, Rehabilitation and Blight Removal, Availability of Fair Housing Date, Information, Education and Outreach.

Economic Justice encompasses access to capital, homeownership, and wealth building. Workforce development focuses on equal opportunity for high‐wage jobs and trades, a pipeline to high‐paid executive roles, and access to entrepreneurial opportunities.
