YWCA Dance ↘
The YWCA Dance studio provides an out-of-school activity for youth ages 3 to 18. Dance is a sport that promotes confidence, character building, character building, healthy living and well-being. Students can select from classes in ballet, jazz, tap and pointe. 100% of graduating seniors are accepted into college and for the past 12 years a senior has been a class valedictorian or salutatorian at their high school. A Dance Recital is held at the Palace Theater in Lorain in June.
The YWCA Dance program has been in existence for over 35 years. The program, which is located in the first floor gym, includes space for other wellness and mindfulness activities such as yoga, line dance and Silver Sneakers.
CLASSES WE OFFER

Tots Ballet is a fun introduction to ballet for younger children ages three to four. The instructor uses games and songs to teach balance, rhythm, movement, coordination, and basic ballet steps.

Kinderdance is an introduction to ballet, tap, and basic tumbling for children ages five to six.

Our Ballet classes focus on ballet technique while developing strength, confidence, flexibility, and grace.

Our Tap classes teach rhythm and coordination. Students will put fundamentals to work by learning new steps, patterns, and combinations.

Our Jazz classes are a mixture of fun and upbeat jazz techniques. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic class that emphasizes flexibility, rhythm, and coordination.

Please make sure dancers have appropriate dance wear for class.
Ballet/Pointe
* Any color leotard and tights, ballet skirt optional.
* Ballet shoes must be leather or canvas and have an elastic strap: no slippers.
* Students in Ballet VI-XI will need split sole ballet shoes.
Tap
* Any color leotard and tights, dance shorts, leggings or jazz pants may be work over leotard with tank top.
* Socks may be worn instead of tights.
* Black tap shoes.
Jazz
* Any color leotard and tights, dance shorts, leggings or jazz pants may be worn over leotard or with tank top.
* Intro to Jazz, Jazz I, IV: black jazz shoes
* Jazz V-Jazz XI: tan jazz shoes
* New shoes do not need to be purchased, however these are colors they will need for recital.
Kinderdance
* Any color leotard and tights, ballet skirt optional.
* Ballet shoes must be leather or canvas and have an elastic strap: no slippers.
* Students may borrow tap shoes from the dance studio or purchase their own.
Boys
* Light colored t-shirt, dark shorts, socks and appropriate shoes.
The following should never be worn to class:
Jeans, jean shorts, oversized clothing, hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatpants, pj pants, warm-up pants, large jewelry, school clothes.
Hair
All students should have their hair neatly and securely pulled up and away from face, bangs are permitted. Gum and Candy are not permitted during class.
